Gooch’s Beach

There are many places you can go on a vacation. Like Disney World is where you can wear out your feet, stand in long lines until you’re about to drop, just for a few minutes thrill. Or what about sea-world? Where you can see the trained animals in their tanks and pools. Are you the kind of person who wants a laid back vacation? Where you can lay on the beach and sun-tan all day long, anywhere you want, where you can choose to listen to music, or the gentle yet sharp crashes of the waves against the tower high shore rocks. Where you can leave your children to be watched by the daytime lifeguard, feeling comfort in knowing your younger kids are free to explore deep into the shallow water safely, or knowing your older kids are being watched by not only a crowd cheering them on, but trained eyes as they surf the crazy high waves. Even Fido can go to this place before 9 am and after 5pm. The perfect place for a romantic honeymoon out on a boat in the midnight water. Paddling along the moonlight water, or motoring slowly through the smooth, clean surface while enjoying the night with your lover who by this point will be illuminated by the stars and in awe at the peaceful and calm sounds flowing through the still air. But what is this place? Hawaii? Nope, Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine.

Yep, that’s right, Maine. it’s not just sight seeing the vast forests or sea-food and blueberries. It’s much, much more. That is, if you go to the right places. Now I’m not talking about Barharbor, I’m not talking about Bangor. I’m talking about Kennebunk. It’s a town far away from Hancock, the town I was born in, but the hour to get there is worth it. Even if it takes days, trust me, it’s worth it.

I remember when I was little, I would go over to my Grandmother’s house in Kennebunk, and we would always go to Gooch’s Beach. I remember seeing girls chasing their dogs with their shiny, gold, black, or white coats, brightened by the sunset. I sometimes would even chase them too, but not enough so I wouldn’t have enough energy to swim. I would run across the soft sand and splash into the water with my sister playing Marco-Polo till the end of the day. When we would get ready to head back home, I would search the beach for hidden treasures such as seashells and crabs.

Now that I’m older, I look back on those days at Gooch’s Beach and I think

“Wow” because I can honestly say, that beach shaped who I was today. The sights and sounds,t he feeling and smells. Those things I never seemed to be able to get out of my head. Going to a place like Vacation Land’s beautiful Gooch’s Beach, is something I guarantee you can’t regret.
