What a Green Town!

Moosehead Lake is my favorite place to be. I love being in Greenville. The large, fresh, glacier fed water is crystal clear. There really is no other place to be. Greenville is set quietly in the country with a few stores and three cozy restaurants. The best being the Black Frog. There are two great parts of the lake, one of them being Mt. Kineo.

Mt. Kineo is in the middle of Moosehead Lake in Rockwood. It has 1,150 acres ofbeautiful forest and a golf course. It has a cliff at a 90 degree angle that is 700 feet. At the top you can see 42 miles of the great lake. The giant rock is most known for its slate, or hornstone. It is the largest known mass in the country. The Native Americans found it and used the rock for arrowheads, and hatchets. The island has a town right next to it where the town had been covered with water after the dam that once existed was let out. It has maybe about 15 houses under water.

One other great place to visit while you are in Greenville is the famous ElephantMountain where an historical B-52 crash landed back on January 24, 1963. The B-52 was designed to carry two nuclear weapons and at the same time the large plane could carry twelve small attack missiles. As you drive to that site there are wonderful views of wide open land and you can see for miles. Blueberry bushes grow all along the road to the top. On the top of the beautiful mountain you can see miles upon miles of pristine wilderness. You can hike on a narrow trail up the mountain to see the devastating plane crash and most of its parts and pieces. You can also see the plane engine and one of the ejected pilot’s seats at the club house on the ITS85 snowmobile trail.

I can tell you this; Greenville is such a great, if not historical, vacation destination that I have even seen California plates in the parking lots.
