Where History Meets the Sea

I know the perfect place for you to visit in Maine if you like history. Even if you don’t like history, Bucksport is still a magnificent place! There are tons of activities you can do in Bucksport. I recommend that you come and visit Bucksport.

I think the best place in Bucksport to visit is Fort Knox, even though it is technically located in Prospect. Fort Knox is located on the west back of the Penobscot River. You should come and explore the Fort and discover this treasure of Maine and the United States. The grounds are open year round for your visiting pleasure. While you are at the Fort be sure to visit the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, which rises 420 feet above sea level; it provides a breathtaking view of the Penobscot River Valley. Even if you are afraid of heights, you need to face your fears sometime!!

After you visit Fort Knox be sure to take a stroll on the Bucksport Waterfront Walkway. The walkway is a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. The best sort of walk is a night stroll after you eat at one of the downtown restaurants. You can walk all that food right off! Visitors can be found reading the many historic plaques located along the famed “Million Dollar Walkway” or viewing the many plants and flowers that appear to go on forever and ever! Walking this is a MUST!! Don’t forget your camera!

While you are there you HAVE to visit the famous grave of Jonathan Buck. His grave attracts a lot of people each year, not because of his service to his town and country, but because of the image of a woman’s foot and leg which appears on his memorial. According to the legend, Buck’s grandchildren built a monument near his

grave site, and as the monument weathered, the image appeared under the name

Buck.

You absolutely have to go to Bucksport, if you don’t your vacation will not been complete. Make sure you bring a camera and take loads of pictures so you will be able to remember your trip to Bucksport, Maine!
