Market Square, Houlton, Maine

Dear Out Of State Tourists, –

I want you tQ come to Houltoñ, Maine, also kuowil as th~ “Vacationland” state. I think that is very true, then again I’m only twelve and I live here. I think that Houlton is a big part in Maine being the “vacationland” state. My favorite place in Houlton is somewhere you have to see before you leave if you are a

tourist, someone visiting family, or even if you are just passing through.              – – – – -This beautiful place in Houlton is Market Square. Some of the things that are~-~

in Market Square is, Uncle Willie’s Candy Shop, The Elk’s Club, Jean Serendipity, and Country North Gifts. Some events that happen in Houlton’s Market Square is The 4th of July Parade, Memorial Day Parade, and the Christmas Parade. TheChristmas Parade goes into the square and they light up the tree. So I think that Houlton, Maine’s Market Square is the reason why Houlton is a big part in why Maine is considered the “Vacationland” state. Market Square is special to me, but it might not be special to other people.

Houlton has many more great features. For example; the fact that while you are here you can visit another country with just a passport and a five minute drive.

Some people might say Houlton is a historical site, and it is. In 1902, on

May 17, a fire started in a coal bin in the back of a building on Main Street called Dyer’s Market. The fire left 20 businesses, 3 churches, 75 houses, and 111

buildings in ruins. The fire devastated the town and family of Houlton, Maine. The

unsettling fire was then on known as the great fire of Houlton, 1902.

Houlton Market Square is special to me no matter what. Maybe the Great Fire Of Houlton did ruin some of our history and left peopIe~obless and hopeless, but it brought us our new Market Square.

So come to Houlton and visit Market Square and~er jay the history, the view and see our big giant family
