•              Memories Made in Maine

You can touch the clouds, and see everything for miles and miles! If you were to ask me where to visit in Maine, I would automatically say Bar Harbor. A lot of people would say Bar Harbor because it is so beautiful and extravagant, but where I go in Bar Harbor, you can’t even imagine!

Last summer I was hiking a mountain when there was a little path, or what looked like a path. We strolled down it, not knowing where we would end up, or what we would see. Finally, we ended up coming to a wide cliff made up of a cluster of rocks. When I looked down we were up really, really high and all I could see was the water glistening off the rocks. When I looked up, I cOuld almost touch the clouds. Straight across the water on another cliff was a huge mansion! It was all so breathtakingly hard to take in, I could barely believe my eyes!

Bar Harbor has so many places like this, the ones that just blow your mind when you see them. Downtown has many places to browse and shop, and many wonderful restaurants in which to eat. Once you are done with your downtown adventure, there just might be a boat at the dock waiting for you. Yes, you can take a whale or seal watching ride. Schooning all around the exquisite islands, and viewing all the sea

creatures and enthralled people, just makes you feel like you are in a magical land. You won’t ever want to leave!

Why not see it even closer? There are tons of trails to bike or walk that will let you be up close and personal with nature. The trails will go on for miles and miles, with plenty of interesting sights to keep you entertained along the way! There are numerous sections of of Acadia National Park to explore nearby, and there are always amusing activities going on somewhere in the area! Want to rest up for the next day ahead? There are charming hotels, motels, as well as bed and breakfast establishments all around that have lovely rooms and views.

So if you are looking for a relaxing and exciting vacation, Bar Harbor is the place to go. Oh, and one more thing! Don’t forget to take lots of pictures, because you are never going to want to forget this trip!

The Best of the Best

In Maine That Is!

The town of Bangor is best by far. Some may say it is Brewer, Bucksport, or Bar Harbor, but I say it is none other than the city of Bangor. There are many reasons that Bangor is the best. You might have heard of some average reasons, but the best reasons are sometime the hardest to find. The following trivia will help you understand how absolutely outstanding this town really is.

Being the 3rd largest town in Maine makes life in Bangor just right. It’s not too crowded, but not too “out there” in no man’s land. If you like taking walks, you could walk in the second oldest garden cemetery in America, Mount Hope Cemetery. If you are more of an alive person you could visit the Orono Bog Walk with hundreds of different animals and plant species.

I know some would rather learn in a museum than walk outside; Bangor has that covered, too. There is the Hudson Museum with free admission, or the Maine

Discovery Museum if you like a hands on learning, the Cole’s Land Transportation Museum, as well as other museums that are easy to access. Many of these museums share information about Maine’s history.

Maine’s history has always been bright and even humorous. Bangor was to be named Sunbury, but accidentally was named Bangor. Representing Bangor history is giant Paul Bunyan statue. That statue is the largest one of Paul in the entire world! Bangor has other interesting history as well. Bangor has a very low crime rate and is home to some of the highest quality schools in the state.

This may all be great, but what if you don’t live in or near Bangor? Well, on Odlin Road there is a strip of different hotels in the area, conveniently located near the Bangor International Airport. Each hotel has a strong suit. RamadaTM has a bar and a dance floor for adults; Econo LodgeTM has the best heated indoor pool; but the very best, in my opinion, is the Days InnTM. The Days inn TM has outstanding customer service, an indoor pool, great accommodations, and the nicest staff I have ever met in all of my journeys.

Given all of this information, why wouldn’t you want to select Bangor as your getaway retreat?

•              Mystery Place in Maine

If you are a fan of Camden or Bar Harbor, no offense, but those are not the best places to visit in Maine! in my personal opinion there is a better place. If you are one of those people who ,like to get away from home every once in a while, and take a break to just relax, this is the place for you! It is about an hour away from the busy city of Bangor, and just an hour away from the highest mountain in Maine, Mount Katahdin. There are also other mountains around that you would enjoy to hike and climb. At Gulf Hagas there are beautiful waterfalls throughout the mountain and a lot of wildlife to see. The landscaping is beautiful as well.

From the lake you have a clear view of Mount Katahdin and the majestic mountain range it towers over. Most of the time you can see snow on top of the mountains and when the sun hits it just right in the morning, it is breathtaking. There are many wild animals around as well. We have seen moose, foxes, beavers, deer, coyote, and other interesting animals right near our camp.

Most of the time the weather in Lakeview Plantation is very pleasant, although it can change very quickly! if you like fast paced excitement, try being on a boat at the other end of an eleven mile long lake when a storm hits. At first you may think Lakeview is very boring and there is nothing to do. But you are wrong. There is no Internet, cable

TV, or McDonald’s, but rest assured you will experience facets of life that Google and cheeseburgers could never provide.

During the winter you can ski and snowmobile and do many other activities. Additionally, there is an ice-fishing contest there every year were you can win fantastic prizes, including a four wheeler! During the summer you can take part in rock climbing, hiking, water skiing, tubing, knee boarding, and best of all, swimming. My favorite place to go swimming would be a place called Dead Man’s Rock! Iknow that doesn’t seem so pleasant, but it’s a big rock about 10 feet out of the water and is incredibly exciting to jump off!

Have you guessed the mystery place here in Maine? The breathtaking spot I have been talking about is located at Norway Point on Schoodic Lake in lovely Lakeview Plantation!

Step Out of the City

Maine is the place to be where there are trees as far as the eye can see. Well,. maybe not everywhere. I think if you want to see a city, go somewhere else. But if you want to truly see Maine, I think you should visit Acadia National Park. When you are there you can picnic with your family, hike the trails, or observe the wildlife. You can also see many sites, but the view from Cadillac Mountain is one of the best things to see. You feel like your at the top of the world because you can see the harbors, ocean and islands in the area.

When you visit Acadia you take a step out of the big city and experience the outdoors and the great state of Maine. I think that if you visit Maine and you don’t spend anytime in Acadia, you are not really spending quality time in Maine. Acadia is a great place for all people of different ages. There are numerous activities you can do when you visit this downeast location.

Acadia is an impressive place to visit. From this vantage point you are able to see the sunrise before any other spot in the US. When I visit Acadia I always want to see the view from the top of Cadillac Mountain. There are many great spots along the journey towards the top where you can a see beautiful views, If you enjoy photography you will be in a photographic haven in Acadia National Park. Many of Maine’s tourists come to see the changing colors of the

trees in fall. But when you want to capture fully leaved trees, you should see them on the trails as they are absolutely captivating.

There are at least 18 different trails. They all range from very easy to strenuous. There are many different locations throughout the park where you can hike. The great thing about all the trails is they are marked so it is hard to get lost. There are some that are going up or down the mountain or some that go around different lakes. I have been with my family many times and we have probably grown closer together through our walks. It is a great place to spend time with friends and loved ones. It gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city and its noise and it lets you enjoy Maine.

Tourist shouldn’t come just for the shopping. They should come to see the great outdoors that Maine has to offer. They should come to see the views, come to see the colors of the trees, or come to appreciate our wildlife. That is why I think Acadia National Park is THE BEST place to visit in all of Maine.

Fanciful Farmington

Where are you going on your next vacation in Maine? Are you thinking about going to the beautiful coasts in Bar Harbor, or to Camden? Well, if you are and you think those are the only places where you can really enjoy yourself, you have it all wrong! No offense to the communities of Bar Harbor and Camden, but there are more places you can explore and have an interesting adventure in than just those two communities! Today I am going to tell you about one other place in Maine that you can have just as much enjoyment in, or possibly even more! Farmington is the place to be!

Farmington has many attractions for people like you and me. The college creates a wonderful atmosphere for a friendly and inviting community. While in Farmington you can always go out to a great restaurant to eat, peruse its many downtown shops, and mingle with the locals. People are always very warm and friendly around Farmington and will always try their best to give you a pleasurable experience while visiting. One of the best places to eat around Farmington is the Soup For You restaurant downtown. It has a wide variety of delicious soups for you, and a plethora ofscrumptious deli sandwiches to choose from. The atmosphere is very pleasant with bright and benevolent colors.

Another reason why Farmington is the place to be is that it has many family funattractions within the local area. One of these family attractions would be Wilson Lake and Wilson Lake Golf Course. Both places are charmingly beautiful and are very entertaining! You can play golf at Wilson Lake Country Club or go swimming in Wilson Lake. Some people will even do both in one day! No matter what you choose, I guarantee you that you will have an exceptional experience while in Farmington!

Another tourist attraction in Farmington is the fact that it is so close to Carrabassett Valley and of course, Sugarloaf! You can play golf during the summer and ski during the winter. Sugarloaf has many condos that you can stay in while there, but why not stay in Farmington instead? They have many fine restaurants, it’s super close to Sugarloaf, and you can probably get a room in Farmington for a much cheaper price than you can at Sugarloaf itself! Farmington really is the place to be if you want to have a pleasant experience in a nice, friendly town that has everything you need to enjoy yourself.

Now if you still think that Camden or Bar Harbor are the places to go for your next vacation, you are really missing out on a great time in Maine. While in Farmington you have every thing around you that you could possibly need to enjoy yourself! You are conveniently located near Sugarloaf, right across from Wilson Lake and Wilson

Moose Country – Cross Lake

Where in Maine might be the best place to go swimming, fishing, and see a magnificent moose? No, it is not Camden or Bar Harbor, it is Cross Lake, located in northern Maine between Caribou and Fort Kent. it is my favorite place for the reasons mentioned above and for many more. Maybe it is a spot many people have never heard of, but in my opinion, it is THE place to be in Maine. Cross Lake is not just another lake; it is where my heart longs to be, for it is the most exquisite place in Maine.

Cross Lake has many opportunities to offer its visitors, but my favorite is the fishing. Not only are there the regular Maine fish like pikes, but I have caught a cathsh on a trip with my dad while bobber fishing. if you don’t want to go bobber fishing, but instead would like to fish with real worm’s, St. Peter’s store can “hook you up.” If you don’t have a camp or a boat you won’t have to worry, there is a public boat landing and dock with lovely views, one of which is this area’s signature sunsets. If you are a true fisherman you absolutely MUST go to Cross Lake so you can say you have experienced the best fishing ever.

Not only is there fishing at Cross Lake, but they have excellent water for swimming. While swimming, you may experience a few unusual things that don’t occur

every day. You might come across some ducks on the lake, but they won’t come too close. However, it is spectacular to see them paddling by while you are swimming. My favorite time to go swimming at Cross Lake is when the waves are very bumpy from the wind. When they are bumpy it feels like you are the amusement park on a simulation ride.

The best part of being in Cross Lake is the opportunity to see a moose or two. No matter if you are on the way to the boat dock, on the main road, or on the strip to Long Lake, you can spot a moose any time of the day. Once, while my family was traveling to Cross Lake, we saw the most beautiful and enormous moose. If you don’t get to see a moose at Cross Lake, well then, you must be jinxed.

Now, do you still think Bar Harbor or Camden might be the best place in Maine? I hope I’ve convinced you that Cross Lake is the best and most exceptionally beautiful place in Maine. If you aren’t convinced yet, then make plans to visit Cross Lake soon. You will find it is most definitely worth the drive and the time to get to one of Maine’s spectacularly special spots.

Impressions from a Maine Amusement

Wooohoo! That’s the sound that comes from people in every season at Sugarloaf. During the spring, summer, and autumn, there are so many choices, activities, and amusing locations to explore. Pools, hot-tubs, zip-lining, chair lifts, stores, restaurants, golf, an extremely large gym with a basketball court, skateboarding park, rock climbing, and an anti-gravity trampoline course are just some of the offerings. During the winter skiing and snowboarding can be added to that list.

Condo life at Sugarloaf is spectacular. When you have a condo, usually you can stay as long as you want and can enjoy a nice backyard as long as you don’t mind a variety neighbors. My family and I do not have a condo, but I enjoyed a memorable weekend with one of my friends who invited me. In a condo, there are usually three to five bedrooms, a kitchen, dinning room, living room, two bathrooms, and a back door for your backyard. Many people put their grills out there. It is truly like a second home. At Halloween and Thanksgiving you can display the free pumpkins pumpkins the condo association provides. On Christmas, or any other holiday that deserves decorations, you can display some lights. If you don’t have a condo, you could always stay in their warm and cozy hotel, which is at the foot of the mountain.

Wouldn’t you love to take a weekend off and head on up to Carrabassett Valley for a wonderful time with your family? Who wouldn’t? If your life-long dream has been to

ski or snowboard, take a shot at the incredible trails at Sugarloaf Mountain. At the zip-lining course, you hike up a little more then one-fourth of the mountain. There are 5 or 6 lines, and on some of those, you get to go upside-down. The trampolines have plenty of safety mats. There are two trampolines with a mound of mats in between the two.

Almost everything there is at the bottom of the mountain. The restaurants, stores and main walking area are located at at the foot of the mountain, as well as the safety class/course for zip-lining. At the main store they sell an abundance of different items and souvenirs. The different areas of the store are sectioned off by sheets. Many of the items there are not the usual items you would not find in a big city store.

If you are one who would like to relax for a weekend at Sugarloaf and spend time with your family, you can enjoy a calming weekend to unwind from all of your busy events. Although I have only been there once, you might be able to tell I had an incredibly enjoyable and very memorable time. It only takes one or two visits for you to realize Sugarloaf is the best destination for a vacation in Maine.

The Best Vacation Spot in Maine

Bar Harbor is the best place for a vacation because it has many memorable aspects. I stayed at one hotel that was great, clean, and had a pool. They have many souvenir shops that specialize in local and exotic shells and other materials, such as coral of all colors and shapes. They have many wonderful restaurants that serve freshly caught, fried Maine shrimp that melt in your mouth. They have broiled scallops, along with other types of fish, and of course, the Maine specialty, lobster, which is marvelous, and I know from personal experience.

There is a natural blow hole in the rocks. it makes a thunderous sound and a geyser of water every time water goes into the cave. The first time I heard the thunderous sound it startled me because it was just so fascinating. I never knew that a rock formation could do that! They have Cadillac Mountain there, and I have had a fabulous time being up on the edge of the mountain climbing rocks. It is a little scary when you are on the edge and looking down. One time we were up there and the birds and the wind wanted our Subway sandwiches. There are walkways and overlooks at many different vantage points as you climb the mountain either by foot, bike or car.

There is a sign that says when you stand on top of this mountain you can see the sun rise and you are the first people in the United States to see the dawning of a new day.

In the village, of Bar Harbor there are stores of every kind from book stores to art stores, junk stores to trinket shops. Then there are galleries and museums. The whaling museum, which has a skeletal system of an entire whale right overhead, as you enter, is my personal favorite. It is colossal, and you get to understand how big a real whale actually is compared to yourself. Down by the Ocean Drive there are whaling boats that go out and you get to watch whales. They have a ferry that goes to Canada as well, and although I have not taken the ferry before, I hope to in the near future.

We like to go down to Bar Harbor during the summer season and just before they close in late August, early September. There are many stores that run sales just before they close for the season, especialIy the junk shops with old books and the art galleries. My mom likes to drag me into every single one. Then I get to carry some of the packages. I enjoy the salt water taffy that we purchase in one of the trinket shops. There are motor bikes and bicycles you can ride through the village. Now that I am older and bigger I am looking forward to riding one of the mopeds this coming year. See you in Bar Harbor this coming summer season!

Fantastic “Pickings” at Old Orchard Beach

Some people might say that Bar Harbor, or Camden, or Saddleback Mountain are the best places to go in Maine. Well, let me tell you, those places might be great, but Old Orchard Beach beats them hands down! Old Orchard Beach has the best beach in Maine and it is only 20 minutes away from numerous amusement parks, too. It also has its own pavilion called Palace Playland, and is conveniently located near some unique stores and shops.

As I mentioned before, Old Orchard Beach has its own pavilion. It is a few miles from the center of town, but you can still walk to it from most of the motels and hotels. Its extremely fun for kids, teens, and adults. There is also fabulous food to please the young and the old and all those in between. The food is only part of the reason everyone loves Old Orchard Beach.

Old Orchard Beach is home to many marvelous restaurants and stores. You don’t need to go very far to get what you need in Old Orchard Beach. It depends where you are staying in Old Orchard, but most stores and shops are only a brief

walk away. There are over 40 restaurants conveniently located right near the beach. Also nearby is the wildly popular Funtown/Splashtown USA, which in my opinion, is one of the best amusement/water parks in the state, and is located only about a half an hour away from downtown Old Orchard Beach.

Many people love Old Orchard because of its beach. It is one of the stellar beaches in the state. It is seven miles long, which means even when it is crowded you can have your own little space. Even though the weather might be overcast quite often, you can still use the beach. The water isn’t too frigid like some other beaches along the coast of Maine, which makes for swell swimming.

All in all, Old Orchard Beach is a fabulous place. If you are trying to pick a superb vacation spot in Maine, let me tell you, Old Orchard is the one. If you are having doubts about going to Old Orchard, doubt no more!
