Maine is vacationland because it is beautiful here. In the summertime, it is warm and breezy, just right for beach fun, which we have a lot of. In the wintertime, it is cold and snowy, but has all kinds of places to ski andsled, which make it a blast. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would not want to come here. – -. .-

One of my favorite places here in Maine is Acadia National Park. I love it there. In the summer of 2010, my grandmother took my twin sister and I up the mountain and to the beaches. It is so amazing there!

One of my favorite things there is what’s called, Thunder Hole. What that -is, is there is a ledge that people have made, making it so you can walk on it and listen to the waves. When the waves come crashing in, sometimes it sounds exactly like thunder, and that is how it got it’s name.

Some reasons why it is my favorite place is              –

There is a lot to do. It contains a very beautiful mountain. Cadillac mountain to be exact.Thbre are all sorts of beaches, including thunder hole. Trails to bike and walk on, and camping areas so you can make your visit extra long. There is also a museum called Abbe museum. It is named after ariártist who liked to paint the mountain.

It is really beautiful there. The beaches are gorgeous with their blue water and the tan sand. There are so many places that make you want to stop and look at for hours. All the flowers in the summertime make it more stUnning as you are driving up the mountain. I love the sunset there when it is sinking down in the sky making it all shades of pinks, oranges, and purples.

It is very quiet there. Nobody seems to be yelling at each other and saying, “Get away from me!” The loudest thing there is the crashing waves, which is quite beautiful. It is not rushy there or get out of my way sort of walking, it is just a rhythmic there. I love it. It is a place where you can go if you want to relax with your family after a long day of work.

Maine is the most beautiful place in the world to me, and I don’t have to go anywhere else to say that. I mean, how can you beat it? You can’t is the answer, and that is why I love Acadia National Park and the state that it is

in.

Maine is Vacationland because…

My favorite place in Maine is Old Orchard Beach.

Old Orchard Beach is quite a long drive from my house but we try to get there every year. When you get there you will see a board walk along the beach with lots of people on it because it is a great view of the ocean. Ther4 are lots of vendors and games some of the games are: Basket-Ball, Soccer, Bumper Cars, etc. There are a lot of snack places and restaurants.

If you are looking out onto the beach there is a pier to your left with all of the little trinket stores. The pier has a couple of restaurants and a couple of sports shops on it. It also has a custom shirt shop on it.

I stayed in a motel that over looked the ocean and the room had a balcony. When I would wake up in the morning I would go outside and you could smell the salt from the water if there was a breeze.

There was a couple of bars on the board walk that you could stop ~at if

you wanted to.              -.

Durning the day the beach was packed with people. There was a lot of people that liked going into the water. On the beach there wasn’t a lot of garbage which I thought was surprising with all of the people being there and all.-

There is a park not to far from the hotel I stayed in called Fun town Splash Town. The amusement park was fun with lots of rides and games.

One night I walked down the board walk with my step-brother and my cousin and we found a shop that sold Marshmallow Guns. I looked at the for a while and boughtone and my step-brother and cousin did to. All of us started to walk back to the hotel and started using our marshmallow guns early. I went into the room and had the idea what about abc marshmallows? Everyone said yeah! So we started

Baxter State Park, Maine

Baxter State Park is the place to go if you are looking for a great place to vacation any time of year. It has beautiful scenery and plenty of things to do. It is a very tranquil and peaceful place. Baxter State Park has year-round camping. There are many different trails that you can hike in the summer and snowshoe in the winter. There are 215 miles of trails! 25% of the park is open to hunting, with one exception. You cannot hunt

moose. If you don’t want to hike the whole mountain in one day, you can camp out at Chimney Pond. You can also camp out at Roaring Brook. Baxter is better than Old Orchard Beach or Bar Harbor because it is not

crowded and it has about 209,501 acres of thick, pure wilderness. There is tons of wildlife such as bears, moose, deer, eagles, hawks, etc. Some

people don’t like going outside and getting active, but it is very healthy and

it is very peaceful. It is definitely the most peaceful place to go if you are planning a vacation.

Northern Maine Woods

If you want to get away from all the city junk come to Northern Maine’s Woods with 3.5million acres. Northern Maine’s wilderness offers fishing, camping, swimming in fresh water lakes, and forest. Vacation Land Maine is the best place in Maine for its fishing, camping, swimming in fresh water lakes, and forest. The reason for the best fishing is fishing in Granct Lake-to tf you want to catch the biggest bass-you will ever catch then come on up to Northern Maine. We have so many spots to go camping ether in the

wood or next to one of our fresh water lake. Where you can wake up in the morning and

take a beautiful swim, or you can see our beautiful wilderness with our moose, deer,

ducks, wild turkeys, otter, mink, marten, weasel, beavers, porcupine, muskrat, red

squirrel, Snowshoe Hare, rufféd grouse, Spruce Grouse, loons. If you are lucky, you can get here in the hunting season-s-and go hunting and get our giant moose or maybe one

of our deer.

Baxter State Park

Baxter Sate Park’s land is made up of 28 donations of land for a gift from Perbival-P. Baxter. He used his wealth over a 32 year period to buy and donate the original 201,0-18 acres of land. Since he has died in 1969, the

park has enlarged to 209,501 acres of land b~ adding in 2006 an additional — 4,678 acres of land and Katahdin Lake. I think Baxter Sate Park is a good – – -place to visit because there are many things to do. You could go hike Mt. Kahtahdin. On your way up, you can camp and -see the wildlife like birds, moose, white tail dear, and black bears. Make sure you bring lots of water

and food. You are going to need it! You could hike smaller mountains if you

don’t want to hike the whole day. When you get-home, you can relax and be glad you did something. The downside to Baxter State Park is the mosquitos, bears, and the dangerous spots while climbing and hiking. But if you bring bug spray, pepper spray-it-a bear runs at you, and the supplies needed for climbing you will beall -set. This sounds like a pretty good vacation. You should go and enjoy the outdoors.

The Northern Maine Woods

People say the Vacationland is not much of a vacation until you go to the Northern Maine Woods. The woods is my favorite spot in Maine because of the wildlife, and nice tenting sights in campgrounds. Within the campgrounds, there are trails you can hike, or you can go boating and catch a fish in the river for supper.

In our woods for wildlife, we have white-tailed deer, moose, black bear, bobcat, coyotes, red fox, fisher, cougars, otter, mink, marten, weasel, beavers, porcupine, muskrat, red squirrel, Snowshoe Hare, ruffed grouse, Spruce Grouse, loons and gray jays.

In Maine you can hunt for grouse, deer and bear with only your hunting license. If your going hunting for moose, you need a moose license also. There are multiple trails for your four-wheeler and snow-sled to go on

with family or friends.

In Northern Maine there are warm summers and cold winters. In the warm summers, the lakes are the best in the wilderness. You can go

swimming, rafting, boating, fishing, and lots more. In the winter, you can go snow-sledding, sledding down hills, and ice-skating on the ponds/lakes.

This is why Maine holds the name the Vacationland. Doesn’t it sound like a nice vacation to you?

Camden, Maine

“So many -places to go and so many places to see.” I definitely support this statement when people are talking about Maine. One specific place is Camden, which is located in the Penobscot Bay area. With scenic

– walks and endless activities, this isa must see. Actually there are so many

– –              places to go and see that you may have to take a second trip.. .just to get itaIIm. S – –

Do you think that vacations in Maine are best in the summer? Think again. There are the same amount of things to do in winter, as in summer, maybe even more. Because there are so many activities and sceneries, I am only going to tell you a few. There is alwayslthe amazing ski resort called The Camden Snow Bowl. They have skiing, skating, tubing and

tobogganing. During one of the late weeks of December, there is Christmas By The Sea. It is a weekend full of festive celebrations. Santa arrives on a

boat in the harbor instead of the boring traditional sleigh. Then you can eat food, go shopping, ride horse-drawn carriages, go to parades, tours and atraditional tree lighting ceremony. Also, the Community Ice Carving event is

a big hit. You can watch as blocks of ice are made into beautiful masterpieces. Then once all of that and more is checked off your list, you

can recharge by the fireplace at the “one of a kind cottages.” This is just

— winter, now imagine the summer.              –              –

It’s definitely not all about things to do… there are also a lot of things to see. Because Camden is located mid-coast Maine, there are ocean and forest views. Another way to spend a wonderful vacation, is just to walk

arbund and enjoy the scenery. This activity can take all day, because there – –are a lot of things to see… like the shops, the harbor, the cobblestone streets, and not to mention the beautiful trails that weave through the forest. If you want to be moving and still get a great view, you can go to one of the many golf courses that the area provides. Golf isn’t your sport? That’s not a problem~ There is kayaking, hiking, rock-climbing, sailing, skiing, fishing, and biking. If that still isn’t enough for you, museums and lighthouses are just waiting to be explored.

There are activities for people with all kinds of personalities. For the relaxed, athletic, adventurous, and even people that aren’t very sure if vacationing is their favorite to do. Camden will change their mind. It is so charming; it’s no wonder that Maine is called “Vacationland.”

Griswold, Maine

Maine is not called Vacationland for no reason. When you get off! 95, you should immediately take a left. Go to Masardis and take a left on the BlackWater Rd. Then you should drive about 3 miles until you take a right on the Griswold Rd. When you find a gate that says private road on it, be sure to have an owner with you. There are seven of them. Now guess what? You’re here! The most wonderful place in the state of Maine to have a vacation. It is just you, the wilderness, the outdoors, and the scenery. A wonderful town called Griswold became known in 1903. It was a small town with one store and one school that could hardly fit 30 kids. The town had no way of transportation, unless they took the train or walked. In the town of Griswold, everyone had a huge family, even though the population barely peaked at 150.

All the homes were made of log and were not dependable if something ever happened. The Train Station was one of three jobs you could apply for. The school had one teacher. Many people didn’t have jobs and were left with little money. Only men worked on the railroad, which made it difficult for women

to find jobs. On the day of June 23, 1923 everyone was working and taking care of children when the tragedy began. Children, men, and women run for the river behind the store as the red blaze grew bigger and bigger. Everyone stays in the river as they watch destruction storm through the town. After the fire died down, and it was safe to go back, the people of Griswold had come up the banks to find everything destroyed, homes, gardens, the school, and the mill. Only half of the railroad bunkhouse was left standing. The fire began when a man went to get water at the river leaving his camp fire unattended. When he came back, his fire was out of control.

What was once a town is now my camp. We have six neighbors. When I go to Griswold I pack tons of games for the ride in, it’s a long ride. Riding up to Griswold may take some time, but once you get in there you are ready to have fun. The first thing I do when I get out of the car and put everything in the camp, I walk to the river and see what there is for wildlife. My family and I play racket ball, and sometimes we baseball before lunch. After we eat lunch, we walk north on the railroad tracks about 2 miles to a place called, Dead Water. It is called Dead Water because of the dark color and nonflowing water it holds. Dead Water usually has a lot of wildlife right before supper. You would usually see ducks and geese, but sometimes you will see moose, deer, beaver, and partridge. We also love to go fishing. The scenery is amazing. The trees smell wonderful! Since the trees are close together, they

have many different colors to them. The river gently flows as you hear the trickle of water fall over rocks and logs. The outdoors smells good, and at the same time provides tons of fun and exploring. I would have to say my favorite thing is exploring in the woods to see where the old mill was located and finding old mattress springs. While I am exploring there is one thing I always try to find. I try to find what is left of the old school taught by Mrs. Sam Boutilier. I still have yet to find any remains of the school. Every once and a while the train goes by at about 2:00-2:30 AM. Since my grandfather was one of their fellow workers, they always blow the horn waking us up. I count how many cars they are pulling and write it down in a log book. As you can see this is clearly the most wonderful place to have a vacation. Now it is obvious to me why they call Maine, Vacationland.

Acadia National Park

Maine is a beautiful vacationland state, but the place I like the most is Acadia National Park. There are beautiful beaches and views of gorgeous mountains. Acadia is the perfect place to vacation. There are twocampgrounds at Acadia, and they are they perfect place to camp. Some of my favorite places in Acadiawould be Sand Beach, Cadillac Mouhtain, and Thunder Hole. Sand Beach -is a great place for tanning and looking at the beautiful view or building sandcastles that overlook the ocean. Although it is a little chilly, you can also swim in the Atlantic Ocean. There are about 26 different mountains in Acadia.Cadillac Mountain is the only mountain in the park with a road to the summit of the mountain. People have a choice whether to climb, bike, or drive up the

mountain. Thunder Hole is a great place to hike along the rocky shore or listen to the waves crash in the cave. When the waves crash, they sound like “Thunder”.

Some people may not like camping there because there isn’t any water or electricity hook ups for campers, but it is so much quieter than a busy campground. Campgrounds are noisy and you are distracted by electronics, so its not really camping. Acadia’s campgrounds are quiet, rustic, and they don’t have all of the noise from the city. Imagine sleeping to the sound of nature. There is so much to

do in Acadia. It truly is the best place for a vacation in the Vacationland State of
